Vinesh married fellow wrestler Somvir Rathee in 2018. The couple met while working for Indian Railways. Despite facing career-threatening injuries, including an ACL tear during the 2016 Rio Olympics and another knee injury in 2023, Vinesh has shown remarkable resilience and determination to continue her wrestling career.
In 2023, Vinesh Phogat played a pivotal role in leading protests against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, amid allegations of sexual harassment.
